5 easy steps to finish your bowl cozy by Jean Boyd August 14, 2018 written by Jean Boyd August 14, 2018 1.3K Yesterday I showed you how to get started making an easy and useful project – a bowl cozy – using 2 squares of Banyan Batik fabric and Therm Fleece for insulation (both hot and cold). Therm Fleece is available in many of your favorite quilt and craft shops. Therm Fleece With just a few easy steps, you’ll have your bowl cozy ready to use in no time. Let’s get started! Layer the 2 fabric squares, with Therm Fleece attached, right sides together. Attach a walking or even-feed foot to your machine. Using a ½” seam, stitch all around the outside edge, leaving a 3″ opening for turning. Try not to leave the opening where the dart is. You can slightly round the corners for a nicer finish. Trim seam allowance as required. Stitch Therm Fleece and fabric layers together. Turn the bowl right side out through the opening. Hand-stitch the opening closed. Top-stitch around the outside edge. Top-stitch around outside edge You can also do some simple straight-line quilting in the center of the bowl to make sure the layers stay together smoothly. Simple straight line quilting in the center This size bowl cozy will fit most regular-size soup bowls, but it’s easy to make smaller or larger bowl cozies, just by changing the size of the fabric squares. Smaller bowl cozies will need shorter darts and larger ones will need longer darts. You could also use just one square of Therm Fleece if you wish. You’re sure to enjoy using up some fabric scraps along with Therm Fleece to make some attractive and useful bowl cozies. Another bonus – they are reversible!
