Fantastic fusible applique with HeatnBond Light

Yesterday, I shared with you the material list and cutting information for the Magical Mushrooms table runner I’m working on this week. Did I say work? It’s all fun when using Banyan Batiks Daisy Chain fabric!!

I love fusible applique and I encourage everyone to try it! It’s quick and simple.

The advantage of using batiks for your fusible applique is that the thread content is high and allows for a crisp edge to your applique pieces.

Step 1 Trace mushroom templates onto the paper side of the fusible using a pencil.

You’ll need to cut the following from the templates provided:

  • 4 mushroom tops
  • 2 mushroom undersides (the dark gray in my sample)
  • 4 mushroom stalks
  • 4 grass

Step 2 Using paper scissors, cut around the templates at about ¼”, you don’t have to be exact at this point.

After tracing the templates onto the paper side of fusible, cut outside the pencil line.

Step 3 Fuse your template pieces onto the reverse side of the fat quarters you selected, in my case, I’m using Banyan Batiks Daisy Chain and batiks don’t have an obvious right or wrong side!

You’ll notice that I removed the excess fusible in the center of each applique. I do this to allow for less stiffness in the final project. This is a personal choice, you may proceed as you usually do with fusible applique.

Step 4 Cut out template pieces on the drawn pencil line.

Step 5 As the instructions indicate and using the picture at the end of this post as a guide, press the applique pieces on one at a time as indicated, removing the paper backing as you go.

This is part 2 of 5 in this series.
