This is a wonderful cozy lap quilt made with easy piecing that gives a striking look and has an added bonus of easy applique circles! Using Northcott’s striking Toscana collection of flannels, it’s a dream for anyone to snuggle under!

This quilt measures 60” x 72” when finished and uses 30 12” HST (half square triangle) finished blocks.
Added on top is the fun circles that really give it the wow factor.
materials
3 yds of blue flannel
1½ yds of dark purple flannel
1½ yds of navy flannel
½ yd or 2 fat quarters of each of the following:
bright pink flannel
bright yellow flannel
light green flannel
light purple flannel
3 yds of flannel backing
3 yds batting

TIPS
Before we get started, flannel is a wonderful fabric to work with especially when making lap quilts, as it gives that added warmth and cuddle factor. Here are a few tips to keep in mind when working with flannel.
1. Wash your fabric in hot water and then in the dryer on a hot setting.
2. Press your seams open.
3. Start with a new needle and get rid of after finishing this project.
4. Flannel can make a lot of lint in your machine very quickly so clean it after this quilt.
5. It’s hard to hand quilt flannel so consider tying or machine quilting.
6. Keep the pattern simple when piecing and when quilting.
Instructions
As I mentioned above, wash and press your flannel before going on.
Cut sixteen 12⅞” squares from blue fabric.
Cut eight 12⅞” squares from navy fabric.
Cut eight 12⅞” squares from purple fabric.
On the back of the blue squares draw a line diagonally from corner to corner. Taking 8 of the blue squares, put RST with 8 navy squares. Using your ¼” foot sew a ¼” line on either side of the drawn line. Cut along the drawn line and press seam allowances open. You’ll now have 16 blue/navy HST blocks.
2 squares RST with ¼” stitching on either side of the drawn diagonal line.
Repeat the same using 8 blue squares and 8 purple squares. You’ll finish with 16 blue/purple blocks.
Following the diagram, lay them out in the chevron pattern or create one of your own.
Lay out quilt blocks following this order or create your own design.
An alternate way to lay out your quilt blocks.
Starting with the first row, sew the blocks together and press seams open. Continue sewing each row.
Sew the rows together to get a flannel quilt top. Press seams open.
