Embroidering a reversible holiday runner with the PFAFF creative expression 750 by Margaret Sweete November 5, 2025 written by Margaret Sweete November 5, 2025 1 In yesterday’s post, I showed you the two machines I used to create a variety of cozies (the ice cream cozy being my personal favorite!) to gift during the upcoming holidays: the PFAFF creative expression 750 Sewing and Embroidery Machine and the SINGER MOMENTO 24” Digital Cutting Machine. Exploring the embroidery side of the PFAFF creative expression 750 Today, I’ll share just a glimpse of the vast embroidery possibilities offered by the PFAFF creative expression 750 machine—this is merely the tip of the iceberg, as there are countless options to explore beyond what I can cover in this post. Since this is a Wi-Fi-enabled machine, we can access the online CREATIVATE Embroidery Catalogue, which features over 10,000 designs, in case you cannot find what you need among the 730 preloaded designs. When signed in to your personal Wi-Fi and your CREATIVATE subscription, you can search in the CREATIVATE Catalogue on the large capacitive touch screen and directly download endless designs, like the ones I’m using for the runners I am making for this post. PFAFF creative expression 750 with CREATIVATE Embroidery Catalogue open and searching for pumpkin designs. Choosing and preparing designs for a reversible holiday runner My plan is to find two endless designs, one fall-themed and one Christmas-themed, and create a reversible holiday runner on the same cream linen-like fabric. The CREATIVATE Catalogue has over 10,000 embroidery designs and more in Crafting, and most could be used as an endless design. I often search in the evening for what I’m looking for and save it to my CREATIVATE Vault or as a favorite in my CREATIVATE Catalogue. The next day, I can find it faster either in my CREATIVATE Vault or software or on the PFAFF creative expressions 750 Sewing and Embroidery machine. I located a pumpkin and vine, Endless Outline Pumpkin design (100445020), for the fall side of the reversible runner and a Holly and Berry Applique design named Yarn Couching Christmas Border (#200278026). Embroidering the fall side — endless pumpkins and vines With true resize in the CREATIVATE software I made the Pumpkin Outline Design the same size as the Holly and Berry Applique. I also noted the beginning and ending stitch number of each pumpkin within the design, as I’ll position fused orange fabric under the needle to create a raw-edge applique. I used HeatnBond Lite, fused to the back of the orange fabric, to prevent the raw edge from fraying. When I stitched the Pumpkin Endless Design, I mirrored every design, so I have pumpkins on each side of the vine. An outline design with true resize can be made any size without distortion, as there are NO fill stitches to distort. In the software, I could just insert a color change before each pumpkin to help do this. The PFAFF creative Grand Endless Hoop, is an optional Hoop. Embroidering the Christmas side — holly & berry applique For the reverse side of the runner, featuring the Christmas theme, I embroidered the holly and berry applique design, named Yarn Couching Christmas Border (#200278026). I brought it into the software and under the Applique tab found the SVG file for cutting the fusible appliques on the SINGER MOMENTO 24” Digital Cutting Machine. I used HeatnBond Lite to fuse and bond it to the back of the fabric before cutting out the appliques. There were five in total; some were multiple leaves joined together. The PFAFF creative expression 750 embroidering 1 repeat of the Holl and Berry Applique endless design in the PFAFF creative Elite Hoop (260X200) included with the machine. While this is an endless design, I chose to stitch it out in the PFAFF creative Elite Hoop (260X 200) included with the PFAFF creative expression 750, so I can easily iron my fusible appliques with my regular iron. Any hoop can be used to do an endless design if it is big enough. You can either remove the yarn couching color step in the CREATIVATE software or just skip that color on the machine. After doing 6 repeats on each runner piece, I added 5 inches to each end of the runners (3” space and 2” for fringe). I put the right sides of the runners together and sewed a ¼” seam down each side. I flipped the tube, right sides out, pressed the runner and topstitched down both sides through all the layers. The improved piercing power of the PFAFF creative expression 750 made this a breeze! Then I evened out the ends, stitching at the 2” mark, and then frayed the ends to finish the reversible runner. My runner ended up being 15” x 67”, including 2” fringe at each end. My fabric tends to fray a lot, so I serged the seam before turning it right-side-out. The finished 15” x 67” reversible holiday runner with embroidered applique pumpkins (and vines) on one side, and appliqued holly leaves and berries on the other side. These two examples are just the tip of the iceberg, showcasing the PFAFF creative expression 750 Sewing and Embroidery Machine’s capabilities. Join me tomorrow, as I’m making charger plate-style placemats also reversible in coordinating fabric, colors, and holiday themes to match this holiday runner.
