Press, Cut, Quilt! Get ready for a Jelly Roll Quilt with a fun twist by Paul Leger August 25, 2025 written by Paul Leger August 25, 2025 1 This week, I thought we’d do a fun and easy project—a jelly roll quilt, but with a little twist! Last summer, I made a quilt where I added a black border right into the quilt top to add some visual interest. It really made the colors pop! “What’s in your Hemline Gold Multi-Use Craft Bag” is the title of the post. This week’s project: Jelly Roll Quilt with a Twist measures 74½” x 80½”. Before we dive in, here are some of the tools we’ll be using this week: Essential tools for this week’s Jelly Roll Quilt with a Twist material notions OLISO PROTM TG1600 Pro Plus Smart Iron – Tula PinkTM OLISO Ironing Board Cover – Grey 38cm x 137cm (15in x 54in) OMNIGRIP Ruler – 81⁄2″ x 24″ (21.6 x 61cm) OLFA 45mm RTY-2/DX/MAG Ergonomic Rotary Cutter – Magenta OLFA RM-MG – 24″ x 36″ Double Sided Rotary Mat SCHMETZ #1709 Universal Needles Carded – 80/12 – 5 count Gütermann Cotton 50wt Thread 250m – Ivory BOHIN Mechanical Chalk Pencil 0.9mm + 6 White Leads BOHIN Pencil Refill 0.9mm Pink Blister BOHIN Pencil Refill 0.9mm Grey Blister BOHIN Pencil Refill 0.9mm Green Blister BOHIN Pencil Refill 0.9mm Yellow Blister BOHIN Pencil Refill 0.9mm White Blister Odif 505 Temporary Quilt Basting Adhesive Fabric Spray – 312g BOHIN Pencil Refill 0.9mm Grey Blister FAIRFIELD Quilter’s 80/20TM Quilt Batting – 229 x 274cm (90″ x 108″) fabrics I know I’m not the only one who goes out shopping for fabric and comes home with just a bit more than the pattern calls for. When a pattern asks for three yards (or meters), I usually pick up four—just in case. Once the quilt is finished, any extra fabric goes onto the shelf to join the ever-growing stash. For this quilt, I pulled together a selection of five fabrics from that very stash: four that looked great together and of which I had about a yard (or meter) each, and one that I had a little more than 1¾ yards (around 1½ meters). The fabrics for this project don’t need to match perfectly—this is a quilt where you can have fun with your choices. Pick what you love, mix and match, and enjoy the process of putting it all together. Fabrics for this week’s quilt project: Jelly Roll Quilt with a Twist With the fabrics having been stored in the stash cabinet for a while, they’ll need a good press before we start cutting. After moving to Ottawa in 1996, I joined my first guild. I took more courses and began to buy quilting books and lots of fabrics. Quilting has become my passion. I have made over 150 more quilts since then, and have never looked back. I now share my knowledge of quilting by teaching and doing presentations, and blogging! previous post Custom quilting designs with Creativate Embroidery Software & Epic 3 YOU MAY ALSO LIKE...
