Use hook and loop tape to make peek-a-boo windows in a fidget quilt by Christine Baker October 16, 2024 written by Christine Baker October 16, 2024 49 Yesterday on QUILTsocial, I used an OLFA CHN-1 – Chenille / Textile Cutter and FABRIC CREATIONS Fabric Bundle (5pcs) – Metallic Gold – 45 x 53cm (18in x 21in) to make fuzzy chenille fabric for a fidget quilt. All the textured blocks for my quilt are complete, so I’m making the activity blocks today. I’ll use UNIQUE SEWING Self-Gripping Fastener Strip – 25cm (10″) – White, UNIQUE Webbing 25mm x 10m (1″ x 11yd) – White, an ELAN Trench Buckle – 45mm (13⁄4″) – Brown, ribbon and twine from the UNIQUE CREATIV Trim Pack – Black & White and beads to make three different blocks. Peek-a-boo windows block To begin, I’ll cut three 5½” x 6½” rectangles from the Fabric Bundle (5pcs) – Metallic Gold – 45 x 53cm (18in x 21in). I’ll clip a folded scrap of ribbon to one short end of each rectangle then fold them in half, right sides together, and clip again with UNIQUE QUILTING Clever Clips Small – 12 pcs. Clip a folded ribbon to each fabric rectangle, fold it in half, and clip again. Now, I’ll stitch along the raw edges, leaving a small area open for turning. Once the flaps are turned right side out, I’ll push out the corner points using a CLOVER 7807 – Hold it Precision Stiletto. Having a UNIQUE SEWING Sewing Tools Holder right by my sewing machine or on my UNIQUE QUILTING Wool Pressing Mat – 18″ x 24″ – Grey is excellent so that I know where all of my sewing tools are. Push the points of the corners out with a Precision Stiletto I’ll press all the flaps with my OLISO M2Pro Mini Project Iron with Solemate and topstitch on all four sides. Press each flap. Next, I’ll cut the UNIQUE SEWING Self-Gripping Fastener Strip – 25cm (10″) – White into three short sections, remove the backing, and attach one side to the quilt under the edge of each flap. Each strip must be held in place for about a minute and left to cure for 24 hours before use. Press one side of the hook and loop tape to the back of each flap. Now I’ll arrange the flaps on top of the 6½” x 9½” quilt sandwich and use some UNIQUE QUILTING Clever Clips Large – 12pcs to hold them in place. I’ll secure them to the quilt sandwich by topstitching along the side across from the ribbon. Arrange the flaps on the quilt sandwich and clip them into place. To complete this block, I’ll pull the flaps out of the way and attach the other side of each piece of UNIQUE SEWING Self-Gripping Fastener Strip – 25cm (10″) – White to the correct position on the quilt sandwich. Position and secure the matching hook and loop tape pieces to the quilt sandwich. Buckle slider block I’ll make the buckle slider block using an ELAN Trench Buckle – 45mm (1 3⁄4″) – Brown, a piece of UNIQUE Webbing 25mm x 10m (1″ x 11yd) – White, and one of the ribbons from the UNIQUE CREATIV Trim Pack – Black & White. A buckle, ribbon, and white webbing will be used to make a slider for the fidget quilt. I’ll topstitch a 10” piece of ribbon to a 10” piece of webbing and then thread it through the buckle. UNIQUE QUILTING Clever Clips Small – 12 pcs will hold the two ends of the webbing in place on either end of the 3½” x 9½” quilt sandwich so I can baste them in place, on the short sides with my sewing machine. Slide the buckle onto the webbing and then secure to the quilt sandwich with clips. Bead slider block For my last block today, I’ll use some beads on hand, along with pieces of white twine from the UNIQUE CREATIV Trim Pack – Black & White. These will be sewn to one of the 4½” x 6½” quilt sandwiches. Beads and twine will be used to make a bead slider block for the fidget quilt. After sliding beads onto three pieces of white twine, I’ll clip them to the quilt sandwich and use my sewing machine to baste the ends of the twine to the short sides of the fabric. Slide beads onto three pieces of twine and then clip them to the quilt sandwich. These three activity blocks came together quickly and will be fun additions to my fidget quilt. Once again, those UNIQUE QUILTING Clever Clips Small – 12 pcs really came in handy when assembling the parts. Isn’t it great to have quilting tools that you can use repeatedly? In my next post I’ll be making the rest of the activity blocks for the fidget quilt using notions such as UNIQUE SEWING Invisible Magnetic Snaps – Sew-On – 12mm (1⁄2″), a COSTUMAKERS Activewear One Way Separating Zipper 23cm (9″) – White – 1760, a UNIQUE SEWING Double Adjust Parachute Buckle – Plastic – 25mm (1″) – White, and others.
