Zippers make great flower stems on modern quilted pillow by Jackie White July 15, 2016 written by Jackie White July 15, 2016 808 We’re on the home stretch of finishing the Flower Power Pillow! Sometimes, you can never tell where you’ll get the material to embellish your modern quilting project. In this post, I want to show you how zippers can mimic flower stems, and in the process making use of zippers in an entirely new way. Flower Power Pillow Lay your embellishments you made in a pleasing manner to the front of your pillow. I used unzipped zippers for stems, and tassels for flowers as well as the rick rack flowers. You can either stitch down now or after you sew the back of pillow to top. Just remember not to sew through both! I sewed the zipper stems down then attached the flowers after I put it back together. Zippers pulled apart make great flower stems Take your two back pieces and laying right sides down on the quilt top, so right sides are together, wrong sides out, matching outer edges so the sewn edges of the back overlap. Pin in place and sew completely around the outer edges using a ½ʺ seam allowance. Gently flip right side out and press if necessary. Sew the flowers on. Center the tassels around the pillow and attach using double thread and some tiny invisible stitches to each corner. Two modern quilted pillows Sit back and enjoy! Imagine the possibilities of using different combinations of tassels, flowers and colors! This is part 5 of 5 in this series.
