Yesterday I completed the appliques on the Sewing Happens Here wallhanging. I hope you enjoyed the process. I use fusible applique for all my projects, it’s simple and easy to use and gives excellent results every time.
Today I’m going over a few simple finishing techniques, preparing the quilt sandwich, hanging sleeve and quilt binding. If you need additional information on quilting and step by step binding, please check out my previous QUILTsocial post A sleeve and the binding where I cover this in more detail.
To complete the wallhanging:
- cut a rectangle 4″ x 26″ from the backing fabric for your hanging sleeve
- 4 strips of binding @ 2½” x WOF (width of fabric)

Sandwich the wallhanging with backing, batting and appliqued top. I like to quilt my projects with simple straight lines and a bit of finishing of the edges of the applique. A quilt project like this won’t be washed very often so it’s not necessary to finish all the edges, unless that’s what you like to do of course!
