Gütermann, OLFA, and SCHMETZ unite for a Quilting Delight by Paul Leger November 24, 2025 written by Paul Leger November 24, 2025 1 I can’t believe we’ve already had our first snowfall; it’s not even winter yet. Still, the memories of my favorite season are fresh in my mind. I love spring for the promise it brings, the start of everything growing again. I love summer for its lush greenery and the time it gives me to be outside. Fall is beautiful – its colors, its crisp air, those peaceful walks in the woods. And winter… well, I love it best when I’m sipping a cocktail on a Mexican beach! With all that in mind, this week’s project is my way of capturing one of these seasons, a landscape quilted banner I call Seasons Remembered Quilt, inspired by the seasons I love most. Seasons Remembered Quilt Here are some of the essential sewing and quilting tools I’ll be working with this week: OLFA RTY-4 – Straight Handle Rotary Cutter 18mm OLFA RTY-1/C – Quick Change 28mm Rotary Cutter OLFA RTY-2/GP5 – Printed Handle Rotary Cutter 45mm SCHMETZ #1739 Quilting Needles Carded – Assorted Sizes – 5 count GÜTERMANN Cotton 50wt Thread 250m – Ivory ODIF 606 Spray and Fix No-sew Fusible Adhesive Web – 163g OLISO PROTM TG1600 Pro Plus Smart Iron – Tula PinkTM SEW EASY Imperial French Curve – 30″ (76cm) Essential tools used for making the Seasons Remembered Quilt this week The fabrics for this week were pulled straight from my stash. Will I use them all? Probably not. Will I add more colors? Most likely. There’s no right or wrong when it comes to this project, only the joy of choosing what makes us smile when it’s done. Fabric selection I haven’t decided which rotary cutter to use for this project, but I know at least two will be involved. The OLFA 45mm rotary cutter will be my go-to for squaring off the fabric. With the French curve ruler, I’ll switch to the 18mm rotary cutter for those graceful, flowing cuts. And if I decide to slice through multiple layers of fabric, the OLFA 28mm cutter will step in to do the job. After moving to Ottawa in 1996, I joined my first guild. I took more courses and began to buy quilting books and lots of fabrics. Quilting has become my passion. I have made over 150 more quilts since then, and have never looked back. I now share my knowledge of quilting by teaching and doing presentations, and blogging! previous post Creating reversible charger plate placemats | PFAFF creative expression 750 next post Meet the Husqvarna VIKING Designer Topaz 65 YOU MAY ALSO LIKE...
