Imagine being a kid in a candy store. Now imagine being that kid and being allowed to sample. And now imagine being allowed to sample and then sharing the experience. That’s how I feel as I write these posts. Not only do I get to have a look at some amazing sewing machines by Husqvarna Viking, but I get to explore them and best of all – I get to share them with you! This week I’m introducing the Husqvarna Viking Designer Jade | 35. I’m so very excited about it and when I got the box – well – I was dizzy with anticipation.
There are so many little twists and turns to this sewing machine that I’m starting with the physical attributes today and then tomorrow, I’ll look at some of the functions.
You’re going to love the Jade | 35.
Hmmmmm – I was warned that the box was large. See that big box below – that’s a square box. Hurry – let’s open it up and see what’s inside…………………..
A very large square box
Here it is – the Husqvarna Viking Designer Jade | 35. The design is very sleek and modern. It’s mostly white. OK – enough already – let’s open it up!

Now here’s a very unique feature – the Jade | 35 doesn’t come with a hard carrying case. Is that a problem? Not at all. The modular design also doubles as a hard case to protect the sewing machine.
Here’s a view of the back of the sewing machine as it came out of the box. Note the color – the back of the machine is gray! Not only is the color different, but how can I sew with that box in the way?
Let’s turn that dial on the back and give a push to that middle section and see what happens…

Here’s a side view of the Jade | 35. Three bands of color – very unique and very modern looking. See that middle section is being pushed out. Reminds me of a pop out in an RV!
A secret drawer is revealed
That middle section comes right out to reveal the controls of the Jade | 35.
Secret drawer is removed
This section is actually a drawer that is large enough to put accessories, but more importantly the foot pedal and the power cord fit in that drawer. How brilliant is that? I LOVE the design of this sewing machine.
We were always told that when transporting our sewing machines we should put the presser foot down in order to prevent damage to the machine. In order to fit the drawer in, you must lower the presser foot. A good way to remind one to do this when transporting the sewing machine.
Speaking of transporting the sewing machine – it weighs a mere 9 kg. A slim design makes it fit easily behind the backseat of your car for transport.
Which becomes a very practical storage drawer
And here it is – the Husqvarna Viking Designer Jade | 35.
If you were impressed with that – wait – there’s more…

Let’s slide off that accessory tray which allows the use of the free arm for getting into tight corners.
Removing the accessory tray
The sides of the accessory tray (front and back) slide open to reveal two more storage compartments.

Before we move on – let’s stop and think. We started with a huge square box. We pulled a slim sewing machine out of that box. Even with packing material, it doesn’t take long to figure out that there must be something else in the box. Right? What could it be???
Look! The Jade | 35 comes with an embroidery unit. Yes! – the Jade | 35 is not only a sewing machine, but it’s an embroidery machine as well!

WOW – WOW – WOW – are you impressed? I’m impressed!
The Jade | 35 comes with one embroidery hoop measuring 240mm x150mm which is a standard size that works for many designs.

You know what the guys would say – what’s under the hood?
Well – let’s flip up the “hood” and find out. Ah – there’s the spool holders, bobbin winder and more buttons and a screen. Don’t be frightened of the number of buttons – I’m going to give you a run down of what they do as well as how you interact with the screen. The flip up lid also gives a visual of all the stitches that come built-in on the Jade | 35.

Yes – all the main presser feet come standard with the sewing machine. There are feet for making button holes, feet for regular sewing, inserting zippers, overcast stitching and embroidery or free motion quilting.
Most of the Husqvarna Viking presser feet will work on the Jade | 35. I always hate to say ALL in the event that one or two feet may not work. Remember – presser feet will be interchangeable among the same brand of sewing machines – that’s the beauty of having more than one machine from the same brand. However, presser feet are NOT interchangeable among different brands.

Let’s not forget my favorite thing about any new sewing machine. Yep – that would be the User’s Guide. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. I’m not usually one to read user guides. BORING! (I couldn’t stand to read my cell phone user guide!)
However, I have to say that I learned so much from reading the User Guide. And if there was some part I didn’t understand, then I sat down at the sewing machine until I figured out what I was trying to learn. That usually brought up another teaching moment for myself and well – that’s how we learn!
Don’t just shelve that User’s Guide – READ IT. Read it in bits as it can be a bit much to read all at once. Play with the sewing machine as you go through the sections. Highlight things you didn’t know so they are easy to refer back to.
Husqvarna Viking Jade | 35 User’s Guide – Read it! If you can’t stand reading it all at once, read a little at a time and highlight things that are important to you.
Now where does the Jade | 35 fit in the world of sewing machines? This is an entry level embroidery machine. Yes – if you want the ability to do machine embroidery, but the cost has scared you off – this would be a perfect fit.
I know what you’re thinking. The machine looks fantastic – that modular design is really sharp and modern, but can it sew? I’m good at keeping secrets and I’m saving that for later this week.
Tomorrow, I’ll share some of the features on the Husqvarna Viking Jade | 35. Stay tuned – I think you’re going to be surprised! Have a great day! Ciao!
