Introducing the Husqvarna VIKING Large Magnetic Hoop!

by Elaine Theriault

OH! I’m so excited to share this fantastic news with you! Remember yesterday’s post about the new look, Nordic Frost Edition? I left you hanging about what fits in the opening of the redesigned luggage for the Husqvarna VIKING Designer Epic 3. Well, today we are about to find out! Introducing the Husqvarna VIKING Large Magnetic Hoop! EXCITED!

A white and red box with a picture of a machine embroidery hoop

Look at the embroidery area! It’s 360 x 230 mm, which is impressive. Quilting comes to mind! As with many other projects, such as large designs that require multi-hooping, endless designs, and more!

Here’s what the hoop looks like outside the box.

I’ve prepared a video to explain the anatomy of the Large Magnetic Hoop. Please note that this hoop only works on Designer Epic 3. It uses the ergonomic connection system, meaning it won’t work with the previous system.

I had so much fun with this new hoop. Here’s a quick video showing how easy it is to secure your project in the Large Magnetic Hoop.

As you saw in the video, there’s a risk of stretching the fabric too tightly in the hoop. The overstretched fabric, when removed from the hoop, will cause ripples, which we do NOT want in our embroidery.

An acrylic template comes with the Large Magnetic Hoop, and it’s fantastic. I rehooped the same project using the template and NOTHING shifted. Take a look!

I’ll play more with the Large Magnetic Hoop later this week, as I have several projects I want to embroider.

I needed to finish some pieces for a free-standing project when the Large Magnetic Hoop arrived at my house. I used Aqua Magic water-soluble stabilizer and stitched out several hoops with more than 80,000 stitches; there wasn’t a single ripple or bubble on the stabilizer or the projects. I’m sold and can see myself using this hoop a lot!

I bet you’re now asking, what’s the difference between a magnetic hoop and a metal hoop? I’m glad you asked because I’m about to tell you!

I love my metal hoops, but I’m going to love the new magnetic hoop because of its size, stability, and ease of use!

One of the first differences is the material they are made of. The metal hoop is just that: it’s made from metal. With the addition of the round magnets (a maximum of eight), the weight was becoming a challenge for the embroidery unit. The magnetic hoop is plastic, but it has a narrow metal insert around the perimeter, allowing rectangular magnets to be used and reducing its weight. With reduced weight, the size can be increased!

The shape of the magnets also affects how the project is secured to the hoop. Using a metal hoop, the maximum number of contact points is 8. In contrast, the magnetic hoop, with its rectangular magnets, has contact points along the entire perimeter, providing the same stability as a traditional two-part hoop.

The magnetic hoop compared to the metal hoop

Another significant difference is that the metal hoop’s frame is wider than the magnetic hoop’s. With the thinner frame, the hoop size can be increased, and that works just fine for me!

And now I can reveal that the Large Magnetic Hoop fits on the side of the redesigned Designer Epic 3 luggage, as does the Mega Turnable Hoop. I love it!!!

Oh my… I’m so excited! I think the Large Magnetic Hoop will be a game-changer for securing projects in the hoop. Those magnets are powerful, so be sure to use that template to keep your fabric from moving.

And now I’m off to find something else to stitch in the magnetic hoop!

Be sure to come back tomorrow as I use the Large Magnetic Hoop and the Husqvarna VIKING Designer Epic 3 | Nordic Frost Edition to embroider a project in the hoop! I can hardly wait to share that with you!

Have a super day!

Ciao!
