The easy way to applique with HeatnBond fusible web: What works best by Jean Boyd July 5, 2022 written by Jean Boyd July 5, 2022 399 Yesterday, I introduced you to several different Odif spray products and the HeatnBond Thermo-Adhesives that we’re using this week. Now let’s get started making the first block for our ‘Something Fishy’ wall quilt! instructions Cut the following background pieces for the applique. (I cut my pieces about 1″ larger all around and drew the finished size of the block on the fabric. This gives me some wiggle room in case the fabric becomes distorted or frayed while stitching the applique shapes.) [PLEASE Link the following bolded content to noted PDFs] 1 – 13½” x 15½” for Fish 1 (page 1 and page 2) 1 – 9½” x 9″ for Fish 2 1 – 8½” x 9″ for Fish 3 1 – 17½” x 7″ for Fish 4 Background fabric for applique Trace the shapes for Fish 1, from page 1 and page 2 of the PDF file, on HeatnBond EZ Print Featherlite 8½” x 11 sheets. These shapes are reversed for use with this product. You can also print the design from your computer directly onto a Featherlite sheet. What a great feature! Print the pattern on HeatnBond EZ Print Featherlite 8½” x 11″ sheets. Cut out the paper shapes leaving about ¼” all around the printed or traced shapes. Place the shapes, shiny (fusible) side down, on the wrong side of the desired fabrics. Press the paper shapes to the wrong side of the fabric, using medium heat and no steam, for about 2 seconds. Full directions for using the HeatnBond EZ Print Featherlite 8½” x 11″ sheets are on the back of the package. Cut out each shape following the printed lines. Remove the paper liner from the back of each shape. Applique shapes for Fish #1 Using the diagram of the finished block as a guide, place the shapes on an applique pressing sheet or piece of parchment paper. Place the shapes on an applique pressing sheet or piece of parchment paper. Press gently, just to secure each shape. Fish 1 is assembled. Lift the whole fish shape from the pressing sheet or parchment paper, and place it on the 13½” x 15½” background fabric. Press and hold the iron for 6 seconds on each section, until the entire piece is bonded to the background fabric. Fish 1 on background fabric Come back tomorrow and I’ll show you how to make 2 more fish blocks using Odif 606 Iron on Adhesive for Fabric and Odif 404 Repositionable Craft Adhesive.
