Top 10 reasons why I love the Husqvarna Viking Designer Ruby Royale by Elaine Theriault March 6, 2015 written by Elaine Theriault March 6, 2015 1.1K Today I’m going to share my top 10 reasons why I love the Husqvarna Viking Designer Ruby Royale. Even though I have been playing around on the Designer Ruby Royale for a while, I feel like I have just scratched the surface of all that it can do. There are lots of other features and options that I just haven’t had a chance to show you and many more which I haven’t discovered yet. So in no particular order – here are my top 10 reasons why I love the Husqvarna Viking Designer Ruby Royale. Based on what you have seen through my posts, what would your top 10 be? Number Ten – The Designer Ruby Royale has embroidery capabilities I’ll say it one more time, I’m not a big machine embroiderer, but I love having the option to do machine embroidery. There are times when regular stitching or applique just doesn’t cut it and being able to create something and embroider it is awesome. Being able to embroider words is huge for me and I would be lost without that capability. Husqvarna Viking Designer Ruby Royale with the embroidery unit attached Number Nine – Embroidery Edit The built-in machine embroidery editing capabilities of the Designer Ruby Royale are fabulous. You have the option to use any of the built-in designs, the Embroidery fonts, the alphabets, and any of the built-in stitches in any combination. You can add, delete, duplicate, move, resize – you name it – you can do it. And this is just with the built-in software. There’s also free software that you can download – QuickFont allows you to create embroidery designs from most TrueType fonts and also the ability to help organize the embroidery designs that you purchase or create. If that isn’t enough, you can purchase any of the 6D software packages which will make your mind spin with the options. Embroidery Edit screen Number Eight – Large Interactive Screen The large interactive screen is so easy to use. All the information you need pops up on the screen. The menus are very well laid out and everything is easily accessible. Using the stylus makes it easy, accurate and quick to access the correct function. There’s enough room on the screen in the Embroidery Edit mode that you can get a good visual on all designs even in the largest hoop (the Royal). Large interactive screen Number Seven – Stitch Restart I just love the Stitch Restart function. If I’m doing any stitch, but in particular the decorative stitches and it is important that I start at the beginning of the stitch sequence, the Stitch Restart function makes it a snap. A quick tap and you’re right back to the beginning of the stitch sequence… very important if the placement of your stitches is critical to the final outcome of the project. Stitch restart function Number Six – Royal Embroidery Hoop The Husqvarna Viking Designer Ruby Royale comes with two embroidery hoops. One is 120 mm by 120 mm and is a nice size for small items. However, I love the Royal hoop. It is 200 mm wide by 360 mm long. Just perfect for doing words, and there’s less hooping involved because of the size of the Royal Hoop. Embroidery is done faster and you didn’t have to worry about matching one hooping to another. I love that! Splendid Square Hoop and Royal Hoop Number Five – Automatic Jump Stitch Trim If you have ever done machine embroidery, you’ll understand how amazing this feature is. There’s no more trimming that jump stitch between the letters, designs or color changes. The Designer Ruby Royale trims those threads as it moves to the next embroidery element. The first time I saw this – well I had to sit and watch the machine trim the threads. Very useful feature and huge time saver! Jump stitch is automatically trimmed as the Ruby Royale moves to the next embroidery element Number Four – Exclusive Sewing Advisor It’s so easy to sew any type or weight of fabric. It’s as easy as choosing the fabric type (knit versus woven, light to heavy weight and even leather or vinyl). Next up is choosing the sewing technique. Then the Designer Ruby Royale will adjust the tension settings, choose the best stitch, stitch length and the best foot. Takes the guess work out of having a successful project. Exclusive Sewing Advisor Number Three – Sensor Foot Up and Extra Lift/Sensor Foot Down and Pivot I love the Sensor Foot Up/Extra Lift and the Sensor Foot Down/Pivot. When sewing with the Needle Stop Up/Down function, the presser foot will rise ever so slightly when you stop. The needle stops in the down position and the presser foot rises. This allows you to easily insert the next pieces to be sewn or when doing applique, you can pivot and go around corners and other tight spots without touching the presser foot lever. This is a huge time saver. Function Panel on the Designer Ruby Royale Number Two – deLuxe Stitch System The deLuxe Stitch System controls the needle thread in two ways – traditional thread tension and new thread portioning. The deLuxe Stitch System helps to improve the balance between the top thread and the bobbin thread. The best part, the Designer Ruby Royale does all work behind the scenes and will determine which system is best for the fabric type, weight and technique that you chose. You can override the settings if you wish. deLuxe Stitch System compensation screen Number One – Built-in Support While I love the Information Menu which is an abridged version of the User’s Guide, the QUICK HELP is fabulous. Touch the question mark in the top right-hand corner of the screen and then touch anything on the screen. Quick Help will provide a pop-up menu with a brief description of what that function is. That quick description is usually enough information to get you going again. This is a huge time saver – while the User’s Guide is awesome, the Quick Help is much faster (especially if you have already read the manual so you know what the pop-up messages are referring to!) Information Menu Screen Quick Help pop-up message There are so many features and options on the Husqvarna Viking Designer Ruby Royale that it was very difficult to choose just ten of them. Sewing on an impressive sewing machine like the Designer Ruby Royale makes your creativity levels soar. There’s so much I want to do with this sewing/embroidery machine. I could literally sew for weeks and weeks, and still not run out of ideas. I hope you enjoyed discovering the top 10 reasons why I love the Husqvarna Viking Designer Ruby Royale and seeing how they can be incorporated in your quilting. It has been loads of fun and I hope you enjoyed the projects, learned about more of the Ruby Royale’s great features, and hopefully learned a technique or two. When I’m back, I shall be revealing the quilt that I designed and made for the What’s Good for the Gal is Good for the Guy quilt challenge. It’s going to be very interesting to see Jen’s quilt and my quilt side by side. Stay tuned for that! I can hardly wait. Have a great day! Ciao!
