10 epic features of the Husqvarna Viking Designer EPIC 2 by Elaine Theriault November 25, 2019 written by Elaine Theriault November 25, 2019 1.6K I’m so excited to be blogging this week. The Husqvarna Viking Designer EPIC 2 sewing and embroidery machine was recently released and I’m thrilled to share my test drive with you. While the original Husqvarna Viking Designer EPIC is a best-in-class sewing/embroidery machine, I have to say the best, just got better. The Designer EPIC 2 is beyond epic. Whether you’re an embroiderer or a sewist, the new functions and features on the EPIC 2 will blow you away. I’m in total awe. I picked ten things that were new or have been upgraded. I’ve listed them in random order – I mean, how could I choose my favorite when all of the features/functions are my favorites. I’ll be delving deeper into most of them this week. Today I’m providing a quick overall view into what’s new. Let’s get started. Sleek, beautiful design This isn’t one of the features but look at the sleek and elegant lines of the Designer EPIC 2. It’s gorgeous. Check out this video to see some of the design inspirations. Husqvarna Viking Designer EPIC 2 Here’s a side view of the Designer EPIC 2. There’s the bobbin winder, tucked on the side and there are two USB ports. Hmm – what are those for? The bobbin winder is located on the side of the Designer EPIC 2 The extension table I’m totally in love with, fits the Designer EPIC 2. Even though there’s lots of room to the right of the needle and a fair amount of space to the left, I wouldn’t even consider sewing without the extension table. And if I’m quilting something? An absolute must. Husqvarna Viking Designer EPIC 2 with optional extension table As I mentioned, the Designer EPIC 2 sewing machine is also an embroidery machine. See how large the embroidery unit is? Do you know what that means? The Designer EPIC 2 can use many different hoop sizes, including the largest hoops on the market. That means more creativity without extra hooping. Husqvarna Viking Designer EPIC 2 with the embroidery unit 1. Integrated Dual Feed technology (IDF) YES – that’s right. Integrated Dual Feed technology. You know what that means – goodbye walking foot, hello better piecing! Let’s not forget the Automatic Needle Threader which is a huge time saver when I need to change thread color often. And the LED lighting is the best on the market allowing me to work in true colors with virtually no shadows. Integrated Dual Feed technology on the Designer EPIC 2 2. Laser Guidance System There’s a laser beam! A real laser beam with capabilities that’ll blow your socks off. I’ll be chatting about this feature tomorrow. Goodbye marking, hello saving loads of time. Laser Guidance System 3. Multi-function foot control Oh my! A programmable foot pedal. This is going to allow me to have better control over my projects. This is an add-on accessory, but you know you want it! Multi-function foot control 4. Ribbon Embroidery Attachment Capability What? A ribbon embroidery attachment? This is a first in the home sewing/embroidery market. It’s amazing and the designs are so cute. This is an optional accessory for the Designer EPIC 2. Ribbon Embroidery Attachment 5. Wider decorative stitches – 9mm Yes – I can now stitch out the decorative stitches in widths up to 9mm wide. That’s got me so excited, I can hardly stand it. 9mm – the design possibilities are swirling through my head. The zigzag stitch is set to 9mm wide 6. mySewnet library A library? Yep – a subscription-based library of embroidery designs – available right on the screen of the Designer EPIC 2. Yes – the Designer EPIC 2 is Wi-Fi enabled and I couldn’t be more excited about the opportunities this feature brings to the world of sewing and embroidery. The menu to search for an embroidery design in the mySewnet library 8. Specialty Stitch Techniques A new menu of the Specialty Stitch Techniques has been introduced. This menu is for the Laser Pictogram Stitches and I can do some amazing things with the stitches in this menu and the laser guidance system. Menu I – Laser Pictogram Stitches 9. Design Placement So you’re good at hooping your fabric, but are you perfect? With the newly updated mySewMonitor app, getting the perfect placement with your embroidery is now totally achievable for everyone. Say goodbye to issues with less than perfect hooping. The newly updated mySewMonitor app includes the Design Placement function 10. mySewnet Ecosystem While I’m excited about all these new features and functions, this is the one that has me the most excited. Technology isn’t always my friend, but the more I play with it and understand it – well, I’m in love with technology and all it can do for us. It makes sense with the advancement of technology it would enter the world of sewing and embroidery. Through the magic of Wi-Fi, the mySewnet Ecosystem marries the Designer EPIC 2 sewing and embroidery machine to amazing features available on your computer, your tablet, and your smartphone. This integration is huge. Welcome screen on the Designer EPIC 2 The mySewnet Blog is part of the Ecosystem and appears on the home screen when I turn on the Designer EPIC 2. Oh my – it even tells me how long I’ve been sewing with the Designer EPIC 2. Not long enough! The home screen after turning on the Designer EPIC 2 I can access the mySewnet ecosystem from my computer, tablet, or my smartphone. mySewnet ecosystem can be accessed from a computer, tablet, or smartphone Oh oh oh!!! Aren’t you excited about those features? I know – I’ve been totally unfair and only given you a sneak peek. I’m not sure I can communicate how amazing all these features are in a couple of blog posts, but I’m going to try. There are so many more features and functions on the Husqvarna Viking Designer EPIC 2. Things like three free motion settings, 37 needle positions, stitch balance, design shaping and design applique to name a few. Head on over to this link to check out the complete list of features. Stay tuned! Tomorrow, I’m going to show how the Laser Sewing Guidance saved me a ton of time. Have a great day! Ciao! This is part 1 of 5 in this series. I saw the Epic 2 at a sewing expo. wow looks fantastic with walking foot and laser but price is WOW too! My D1 is still going strong. Trying to reason with myself why I should trade up. I have not used the embroidery a whole lot so trying to discern if the Q95 would be the one to choose. Then again the new embroidery features look so much more user friendly than the early ones. My gut says to stick with the D 1 until it breaks or cant be repaired. My alter ego says I want one! Any help in sorting this out would be appreciated. The cost of embroidery machine is the tip of the iceberg as the thread etc can add up quickly. Thanks for any thoughts. I am sure there are other brands that are great but I love the ESS system which at one time was only on viking. Reply Janice in Alaska December 26, 2019 - 11:40 pm I am trying to find out how much the machine is. Reply Elaine Theriault January 2, 2020 - 8:38 am Janice – you’ll need to contact your local Husqvarna Viking retail shop to find out the price. There may be special pricing or accessory bundles that only your local shop can confirm. To find a retail shop near you, go to husqvarnaviking.com. In the top left is a tab called Store Finder. Hope that helps. Elaine Reply Leave a Comment Cancel Reply Save my name, email, and website in this browser for the next time I comment. Δ This site uses Akismet to reduce spam.
