3 different designs to machine quilt with WonderFil Master Quilter thread by Christine Baker February 22, 2017 written by Christine Baker February 22, 2017 785 On yesterday’s QUILTsocial, I talked about machine quilting hearts with WonderFil’s Tutti thread and I’m really happy with how the pink variegated thread looks on my Valentine’s Day tablerunner. Today, I’ve threaded my Gammill with something new! I’m going to use 3 different designs to machine quilt three small tablerunners that have been in my UFO pile for quite some time using Master Quilter thread from WonderFil. Two of the little tableunners that I’m going to quilt today were made from blocks that were left over from projects that Nellie and I made for our book “Celebrate Canada”. We used Northcott’s Oh Canada line of fabric for all of the samples in the book. The nice thing about this line of fabrics is that Northcott adds new designs to it every year, but they keep the colors constant – this way the fabrics from different years can be mixed successfully! Hearts and leaves The heart designs that we used yesterday are very versatile on their own and even more so when they are turned into leaves!! I use leaf designs A LOT when I’m machine quilting. They can be used in borders, in blocks or as an overall design that travels from edge to edge across the quilt. Here’s a video showing how I use leaf motifs combined with swirls and loops. Close up of the leaf design Fun spirals Here’s a super fun design that I just learned this summer and have used lots of times since. It’s great for kids quilts and modern quilts and is really easy to do. A circular spiral design is quilted and then a straight line travels to the center of the next spiral. You can make the spirals any size depending on the place you need to put them. I had this little Christmas table runner in my UFO pile and since I was enjoying using the Master Quilter thread so much, I decided to pop it on the frame and finish it as well.
