Bringing on May flowers with Banyan Batiks Floral Boxes!

Bring on those lovely May flowers by stitching up this fabulous floral wallhanging using the NEW Banyan Batiks Floral Boxes! I created this new design for you!

This simple pattern will show you how to make fusible applique circles and other simple shapes and finish them with decorative stitches. In only a few hours you’ll have a beautiful fabric floral vase to celebrate the new season.

May Flowers Applique Design!

You may remember my post back in January 2019… the marvelous mushroom table runner!

And you may also remember that I encouraged you to audition fabric before starting your project. For something as simple and graphic as this design, bright colors work well but of course, it would be interesting to see this design in different colorways.

I chose from the following Banyan Batiks Floral Boxes, appropriately named bluebell and pansy.

Batik fabric is always a good choice for applique as the tight weave of the fabric creates a gorgeous crisp edge and of course Banyan Batiks are the very best!

Project color selections using Banyan Batiks Floral Boxes

You’ll notice that my fabrics are slightly wrinkly as they have been washed. To wash or not to wash is a personal preference, so however you normally work with fabrics, that is fine for this project.

materials

fabric

  • 1 yd background (white)
  • 1½ yds for backing, binding and hanging sleeve (green)
  • fat quarters for vase (navy), flowers (red, blue, yellow) and leaves (green)

other

  • cotton batting
  • threads to match your fabric colors

I included a blank pattern page so that you may print it and color it however you choose. I find this an excellent way to decide on the colors for your fabrics before cutting into anything.

As always, I would love to see your version of the May Flowers design, which Floral Boxes colorway will you choose? If you’re on social media you can find me on Instagram @iamgingerq and let’s use #banyanbatiksspring so all our creations can be seen in one place.

Tomorrow we prepare our appliques!

This is what we have to look forward to by the end of this week – the completed May Flowers project using Banyan Batiks Floral Boxes

This is part 1 of 5 in this series.
