Finishing the Roll and Go sewing organizer

Yesterday we got all the bits and pieces of the Banyan Batiks African Violets put together. Now it’s time to assemble everything to finish the sewing organizer.

  • Sew pocket 1 to the inside panel, 9½” down from the top.

Placement lines on the inside panel

  • Sew pocket 2 to the quilted 9½” x 19½” rectangle, 3″ up from the bottom. Have the open edge ¼” below the 3″ line.

Sew pocket #2 on the outside, quilted rectangle.

  • Fold pocket 2 down and hand-stitch in place.

Fold pocket down and hand-stitch in place.

Putting it all together

  • Layer the quilted front and the inside rectangle (right sides together) aligning all the outside edges. Using an even-feed or walking foot, stitch the layers together with a ¼” seam, leaving a 2″ opening for turning on one side. You can round the corners a little if you like.

Corners can be slightly rounded for a nicer finish.

  • Turn right side out. Press. Hand-stitch the opening closed.
  • Top-stitch ⅜” from the outside edges.

Top-stitch all around the outside edge.

  • Hand-stitch the pin cushion in place, 6″ down from the top.
  • Sew the 30″ piece of ribbon on the front panel, 6½” down from the top as shown in the picture below.

Sew the ribbon tie in place on the outside panel.

  • Fold up the fabric 3″ from the bottom to form a pocket. Hand-stitch the pocket layers together along the outside edges.
  • Put in your thread, needles, pins and scissors. Roll up your Banyan Batik African Violets sewing organizer and you’re ready to go with all your sewing supplies!
