Yesterday we discovered how easy it is to use Gütermann metallic threads in your projects as well as SCHMETZ Metallic Needles.
Today we’re making decorations for a tabletop, or maybe even to put on a wall. The star of the day will again be Gütermann Metallic Threads. I want to show an example of another wonderful use for these threads.
Gütermann Metallic Threads
For this decoration, I used a fabric with a pearl finish. For every 6½” strip, I calculated I could get at least 2, maybe 3 ornaments per strip depending on the size of the ornament.
Most quilters and sewers now have machines with more stitches than we’ll ever use or know about. For that reason, I went looking at what fun stitches I had. I found a perfect stitch of a snowflake.
Before starting, I want to quickly mention a very important item that will make the ornaments look so much better, HEATNBOND Stitch n Sew Tear-Away Stabilizer.

Some sewers have commented that HeatnBond stabilizer is for embroidery only. Believe me when I say it’s also for those who quilt and sew. I use a stabilizer every time I want to put a decorative stitch on fabric, otherwise the fabric doesn’t have enough body to allow for a pretty result.
In the photo below the differences are obvious. I didn’t use a stabilizer when I sewed the red snowflake pattern. There’s a stabilizer under the green snowflakes. The green snowflakes lay flatter, and the stitching is a much better quality.

With a piece of stabilizer under the fabric I stitched rows of snowflakes using green and red, Gütermann Metallic threads. All the rows are approximately 1” apart.
I encourage everyone to give this a try. Play and explore using different stitches. I want everyone to have fun!

Tear off the excess stabilizer around the stitching and save the leftovers for another time.
Don’t worry about the bits left directly behind and in the stitching. They stay there to continue to add stability.
