Hello from the Desert! Fabric Postcards with sunny Saguaro charm by Carla A. Canonico June 16, 2026 written by Carla A. Canonico June 16, 2026 1 After taking the classic log cabin block for a longer, faster spin with The Long Cabin Quilt by Elaine Theriault last week, let us head somewhere warm, sunny, and full of personality with Hello from the Desert! Fabric Postcards by Jennifer Houlden. Some projects make you smile before you even thread the needle. Hello from the Desert! Fabric Postcards is one of those cheerful little makes, full of sunshine, texture, and personality. Jennifer Houlden turns the Saguaro cactus into a friendly fabric postcard, and honestly, who would not love receiving a little hello from the desert in the mail? skill level Easy time A happy afternoon project, or a relaxed weekend if you make all three versions ideal for Fabric postcard fans, scrap lovers, texture explorers, and anyone who wants a quick quilted make with personality you will practice applique, quilting, strip piecing, using Texture Magic, fusible web or glue appliqué, and adding texture with batting behind appliqué finished size 5” x 7” [12.7 x 17.8cm] Hello from the Desert! Fabric Postcards by Jennifer Houlden for ANPTmag Issue 66; photo by Jennifer Houlden for ANPTmag This pattern by Jennifer Houlden was featured in Issue 66, our postcards-themed issue, dedicated to the delightful art of crafting fabric postcards. The issue celebrates these miniature masterpieces as charming love notes and the perfect canvas for trying new techniques without the time commitment of a larger project. Here’s the project description from the pattern page. The Saguaro is dear to Jennifer’s heart. She lived in the Australian Outback, which is very different from the Arizona desert because it has no cacti. Today, she spends her winters in the Arizona desert, where the Saguaro is one of her favorites. Each postcard has the same design, but the Saguaro is created in different ways, using Texture Magic, fabric with batting behind the appliqué, and plain fabric. All are appliquéd to the background with either glue or fusible web. Get Hello from the Desert!
