How to make a quilted table topper from placemat blocks by Jean Boyd February 4, 2016 written by Jean Boyd February 4, 2016 751 Now you have the idea of using the Soho panel and some of the coordinates to make placemats. But, if you don’t need placemats, here’s another way to use the placemat blocks. You can use them to make a table topper or wall quilt! Choose your favorite placemat block from the ones you just made, or create a new design. Make a total of 4 – 12½” x 18½” blocks. You’ll also need to cut 1 – 6½” square for the center of the table topper. I used black, the same color as the outer borders on the blocks. Sew the blocks together as follows: Table topper construction And now you have a table topper or, you could use it as a wall quilt! You could add another border if you wish to have a bigger quilt. You could also make this quilt using 4 different blocks for a very contemporary look. As long as the blocks are all 12½” x 18½”, they will work.
