Twenty years of publishing began with an idea, a love of the needle arts, and a willingness to learn along the way.
A Needle Pulling Thread, 20 years of creative stitches
I recently joined artist and educator Lyric Kinard on her Creatives on Camera podcast to talk about the journey behind A Needle Pulling Thread, QUILTsocial, and KNITmuch.
During our conversation, I shared the story of a reader who approached me shortly after our first issue was launched. She was carrying a copy with the edges covered in Post-it notes. I initially braced myself for criticism, but what she offered was thoughtful, generous feedback that helped move the magazine from a passionate new venture toward a professional publication.
We also talked about building a creative business without formal publishing training, working with designers, learning new skills, accepting constructive advice, and why you do not need to be polished or completely comfortable before appearing on camera.
You need to know your subject. Confidence and delivery can grow with practice.
