Fabric requirements for Spectrum QAL 2020: Anthology Fabrics

I’m so excited to be part of the QUILTsocial Spectrum Quilt-A-Long with Elaine Theriault and Paul Léger. I have been following their work for many years and feel extremely fortunate to work on a quilt project with them. Although I love quilting, it can be an isolating hobby but a QAL is just the thing to get involved with others on a project, share pictures and design ideas along the way and feel connected. I’m hoping to get lots of pictures of your version of the Spectrum quilt design!

There’s no better time than fall to get started. We can all look forward to finishing up the quilt in spring 2021 while keeping busy during the winter days. In case you missed it, here’s the link for the official introduction to the exciting Spectrum QAL with all pertinent details.

It’s without further ado that I present my design for my Spectrum Quilt-A-Long bed runner:

Spectrum Quilt-A-Long bed runner design featuring Little Girl in a Blue Armchair by Anthology Fabrics.

It’s been a year since my divorce and I’ve finally moved into a place I can finally call home, at least for a few years while the boys finish off school. I’m sure many of you can relate.

After ensuring everyone felt secure and at home in this new environment provided by Covid-19, it was my turn to splurge and create a peaceful atmosphere in my bedroom that would welcome a sense of calm and serenity. After carefully choosing my furniture, I needed an accent piece and it just had to be a quilt! The timing couldn’t be more perfect for being part of QUILTsocial Spectrum QAL.

Little Girl in a Blue Armchair fabric collection by Anthology Fabrics is the perfect match to create an accent quilted bed runner for my new room.

If that’s not exciting enough, imagine finding the perfect fabric collection to match my bedroom! I immediately fell in love with Little Girl in a Blue Armchair by Anthology Fabrics! The collection just came out this spring and I’m sure you can request it at your favorite local quilt shop.

Little Girl in a Blue Armchair fabric collection by Anthology Fabrics are dreamy

If you’re like me and appreciate planning ahead, you’ll want to ensure that you have enough fabric for each block before even getting started. There’s nothing more upsetting than realizing 6 months down the road that one piece of fabric to finish the quilt is missing.

Next week Paul and I are both posting our cutting instructions for Block 1. Remember? He’s using the colorful Wave Texture collection from Benartex.

Wave Texture fabric collection from Benartex, colorful and exciting!

Although I’m including a chart for cutting instructions for all 12 blocks and bed runner, DO NOT cut just yet! You may have a different way of cutting your HSTs (Half Square Triangles) or cutting the rest of the pieces. Keep it as a reference.

The following chart shows the number of strips you should cut on width of fabric (edge to edge) to be able to cut the number of units in the specified size for all 12 blocks. If you don’t like to waste any fabric, start by the biggest size and when you’re done cutting the number of units, reduce the width to the next specified size needed.

I have categorized the fabrics based on my fabric collection:

Join me on Tuesday next week for my Block 1 instructions and Paul’s Block 1 instructions on Thursday! See you then.
