This year, I designed the Fireside Modern Drunkards Path quilt from the Jungle Rose Cool colorway by Banyan Batiks as a way to show quilting enthusiasts a last minute quilt can be done in time for Christmas. The quilt’s name is inspired by Fairfield Quilter’s 80/20 Batting and as a lap quilt, it’s the perfect size to cozy-up in front of a crackling fire this winter. You’ll see the modern and the drunkardspath in the obvious quilt design because the curves are somewhat randomly placed.
This time of year gets really crazy for most families. There’s a plethora of organizing and tasks to get done before December 25th. I always like to spend time to plan and execute some very personal handmade gifts regardless of the craziness of the season.
With this quick quilt you can too!
I fell in love at first sight with the Jungle Rose Cool fabric to make this lap quilt. If you love this Banyan Batiks fabric line too, be sure to ask for it at your local quilt shop.
The products below are also needed for this project including: Gütermann cotton 50wt thread for piecing, Gütermann variegated cotton 50wt thread for quilting, SpraynBond Basting Adhesive for quick basting, HeatnBond Lite Iron-on Adhesive for the appliqued arcs and Fairfield Quilter’s 80/20 Quilt Batting to make the quilt soft, cozy and quilted.
Of course, I’m in gift making mode and time is passing quickly, so I made my Fireside Modern Drunkards Path quilt in an appliquilt method. I’m not sure if appliquilt is even a real word but that’s what I’m calling this method. What’s great about it is, it turns time consuming curved piecing into a quick fused applique thanks to HeatnBond Lite Iron-On Adhesive. My 42″ x 60″ quilt was all cut out, pieced and appliquilted within the same day.
Follow along to see how I made this quilt.
