Setting up for embroidery on the Brother Luminaire XP2

Welcome to the last of my blog posts this week. I’ve helped you build your embroidery skills throughout the week using the Brother Luminaire 2 Innov-ìs XP2 sewing, quilting and embroidery machine, and yesterday I added design color fill to your list of new abilities. I hope you’ll use the new skills you’re learning to further your creativity in future embroidery projects!

Now you’ll be able to pull out your children’s drawings you have stashed away, or your grandchildren’s drawings from school, then use the scanning camera on the Brother Luminaire XP2 to create an embroidery design, stitch them out and sew a quilt for an heirloom gift. How much fun would you have doing that? A memory quilt would bring back all those wonderful memories. The scanning feature opens a whole new world of creativity, and I plan to use this feature for my next project. But I shouldn’t get ahead of myself – today I want to show you how to set up your machine for embroidery.

The Luminaire 2 Innov-is XP2 Sewing, Quilting & Embroidery Machine

Select the Home function key, then Embroidery function.

Select the saved pattern, then select the outline design of the mortarboard that was saved in the machine’s memory. Select Set, then Edit. Select Move, then Center Position, then select OK.

Tap Edit, then select Copy/Paste. Select Color Palette. Choose Red, then tap OK. Select Move, Center and the two designs will align with each other. Select OK.

Select Add Feature (bottom left corner of the screen). Select the machine’s saved patterns and choose Applique Outline. Set, then select Edit; Select Move, Center, then tap OK.

Select Add again. Select machine’s saved patterns; select the completed mortarboard, tap Set, Edit, Move, and Center. This design will not be aligned as it is larger, so use the Arrow Key up/down and/or side to side to align the design with the previous ones (use the Zoom feature for accuracy). Select OK, then select the Add Feature one last time.

Select Font Pattern. Select the font style of your choice. Leave font in upper case and type in the words CLASS OF. Select Set, Edit, then Move. Use the arrows to move the phrase above the mortarboard, then select OK. Repeat for the year – 2021. Save the design in the machine’s memory. Select Embroidery, Layout, Move, and center the design in the embroider field.

At the top left of the Brother Luminaire XP2 embroidery screen the icons for the hoops appear; the correct hoop size will be highlighted. Prepare your fabric with the proper stabilizer and recommended hoop size highlighted on the embroidery screen and slide the hoop into the hoop lock and lock into place.

I have been using embroidery machines for over twenty years and I still love to watch them bring on the magic when stitching out the designs!

Stitch the first color: it is a running stitch for the applique placement. Place the fabric over the stitches and embroider the second color. Use a small amount of spray adhesive or a glue stick on the wrong side of the applique fabric to hold in place while the Brother Luminaire XP2 stitches the fabric down. Once the second color is complete, remove the hoop from the machine, but do not remove the fabric from the hoop! With a pair of applique scissors or small snips, cut the fabric close to the stitches. Place your hoop back in the machine and embroider out the rest of your design.

When the design is complete, remove the stabilizer. Press and trim to size for the project you wish to apply it on.

I have to tell you, I truly enjoy working on my Brother Luminaire 2 Innov-ìs XP2 sewing, quilting and embroidery machine. Every time I sit down to use this beautiful sewing computer, I get butterflies of excitement! It has so much to offer with all the great features specially designed for the quilter, and the large work space and large hoop area make it easy to embroider large motifs for quilts.

I’m glad you joined me this week, and I hope you enjoyed learning how to create a graduation themed embroidered applique! I had a lot of fun creating it, and the Brother Luminaire 2 Innov-ìs XP2 made it so easy!
