Spectrum QAL 2020 Block 13: Blue Stitch Collection by Riley Blake Designs

I’m back with my last block – Block 13! It’s been exciting to work with the Blue Stitch collection by Riley Blake Designs. The fabrics are so pretty, and there’s nothing better than a classic blue and white quilt.

I chose an on-point setting for my blocks, which required an extra block. Rather than making up a new block, I decided to pick one of the existing blocks and remake it.

The big question was, which block to choose?

I started by putting all the blocks on the design wall. Oh – I love them! I used several whites (with a small print) for the background and used light, medium, and dark blue fabrics in each block.

Then I played around with the blocks to get a better balance for the block style. Here’s what I came up with, and I’m pretty happy with this layout:

Now, the big question is – which block to duplicate? I ended up selecting Block 11 of the Spectrum QAL. I chose different fabrics than the original Block 11. I’m in the process of sewing it together, and it’s looking fantastic.

Here’s Block 13 for my version of the Spectrum QAL.

And yes – I twirled all the seams. You can refer to the instructions for Block 11, or pick your favorite block, or you might design a block for this on-point setting.

I won’t show you all the blocks laid out yet, but I can tell you it looks so pretty with the Blue Stitch collection by Riley Blake Designs! My next post will be all about sewing the quilt top together, and we’ll talk about sashing and setting triangles, so stay tuned for that.

Have a great day!

Ciao!

I had covid as we were finishing up this QAL. I was doing the Riley Blake Blue Stitch version with Elaine Theriault and don't have the final sewing together instructions. Is there a place I can find these instructions so I can finish my quilt?
