Spectrum QAL 2020 Block 8: The Little Girl in the Blue Armchair collection by Anthology Fabrics

Welcome back to our Spectrum Quilt-A-Long! I’m so excited to present Block 8 as it’s a completely different layout! I love its look and hope you enjoy making it. Some will be happy to know there are no Flying Geese in this block! I really can’t wait to see the final project with all 12 blocks! Almost there… right?

Here are the cutting instructions for Block 8 of the QAL 2020 using the Little Girl in the Blue Armchair collection from Anthology Fabrics.

Step 1

1. Take your D2 squares and, on the wrong side of the fabric, mark a solid line diagonally in the center as well as two dotted lines at ¼” on each side of the center line.
2. Align a D1 square with a D2 square, right side together, and stitch together on both dotted lines.
3. Cut on the solid line.
4. Press the seams to the darkest fabric and open.
5. Makes a 2½” square (trim off excess).
6. Repeat to make 4.

Step 2

1. Take your D3 squares and, on the wrong side of the fabric, mark a solid line diagonally in the center as well as two dotted lines at ¼” on each side of the center line.
2. Align a D1 square with a D3 square, right sides together, and stitch together on both dotted lines.
3. Cut on the solid line.
4. Press the seams to the darkest fabric and open.
5. Makes a 2½” square (trim off excess).
6. Repeat to make 4.

Step 3

1. Stitch 2 Step 1 to a Step 2.
2. Makes a rectangle size 2½” x 6½”.
3. Repeat to make 2 units.

Step 4

1. Stitch 2 Step 2 to your F unit.
2. Makes a rectangle size 2½” x 6½”.

Step 5

1. Stitch 2 Step 3 to a Step 4.
2. Makes a 6½” square.

Step 6

1. Stitch 2 B triangles to an E unit.
2. For accurate sewing, align corner or triangle with corner of square.
3. Repeat to make 4.

Step 7

1. Stitch 2 C triangles to a Step 6 unit.
2. For accurate sewing, mark your ¼” seam allowance and position corner of Step 6 to align on edge of seam allowance.
3. Makes a 3½” x 6½” rectangle (Trim off excess).
4. Repeat to make 4.

You’re almost done! You can now align all your units on the design wall!

Step 8

1. Stitch 2 Step 7 units to Step 5 unit.
2. Makes a 6½” x 12½” rectangle.

Step 9

1. Stitch 2 A squares to a Step 7 unit.
2. Makes a 3½” x 12½” rectangle.
3. Repeat to make 2.

Step 10

1. Stitch 2 Step 9 units to your Step 8 unit.
2. Makes a 12½” square.
