Three Spooky Scrap Quilt Blocks by Carla A. Canonico October 1, 2026 written by Carla A. Canonico October 1, 2026 1 Three spooky scrap blocks piece up into a pumpkin, a mummy, and a bat. Each design comes in four finished sizes: 3″ [7.6cm], 6″ [15.2cm], 9″ [22.9cm], and 12″ [30.5cm]. This post covers preparing paper-pieced templates, then cutting and sewing all three Halloween designs by hand or machine. 365 Days Quilt Scraps materials fabric assorted fabric scraps notions thread to match the fabric heavyweight thread or embroidery floss, for embellishing sewing needles and pins sharp scissors ruler rotary cutter pencil or water-soluble marker transfer paper access to a color printer Prepare the templates Each block comes as an actual-size diagram, printed without seam allowances included. Print the diagram in color, then cut the pages apart to use as templates. Or trace the design onto transfer paper with a ruler instead, then cut out the traced pieces. Cut and piece each block Place every template onto a scrap of fabric. Cut around it, adding a ¼″ [0.6cm] seam allowance all the way around. Sew the pieces together by hand or machine, following the numbered order on the diagram. Backstitch at the start and end of every seam when machine sewing. Knot the thread instead when sewing by hand. Spooky Pumpkin Block A toothy grin makes the Spooky Pumpkin Block the trickiest of the three. A little patience, plus a downloadable template for each size, makes it entirely achievable. Piece one of each for a mini trick-or-treat banner, or repeat a favorite design across several blocks for a full Halloween wall hanging. Original series by Olesya Lebedenko on QUILTsocial.com.
