What is Your Favourite Colour? | Quilts by Jen

Hey Everyone, welcome back to Stash Blasting Wednesday. As kids we were always asking everyone what is your favourite colour? What was your answer? Mine was always blue. I know that I have colours that I am definitely drawn to and love to work with like cool colours and bold, bright colours. There are also colours that I am not drawn to as much, but still use in my quilting just maybe not quite to the degree of the ones that I am drawn to. On Monday I ran my colour class for a few ladies here in my studio and we had a great time talking about colour, creating a colour wheel from a bin of scraps that sits under my sewing table and making a gradated monochromatic fabric runs from light to dark.

Jennifer runs Quilts by Jen, a fantastic educational resource for quilters with many great free tutorials ranging from how to choose fabrics, understanding the value of fabrics, pressing, building Bargello runs, pinning, binding, sandwiching, couching, quilting, and much more. Check them out!

I love bright colors. I have been studying color theory, this is the most exciting study I have done since starting to quilt. Learning how colors work together, the tones, shades, tints, and knowing what they are. This is why I have been drawn to bright colors, I am sure it will change again and again. Color is so exciting as it creates a mood much like the smell or sense of things such as flowers or essential oils. Color theory has opened a new world to me.

    • Hi Laura Thanks for you comment. I love colour as well and how they all interchange together and create different looks. I agree colour theory is fascinating and it to opened up a whole new world for me in my quilting endeavours. Happy Colouring and Quilting Jen
